New novel evokes the atmospheric setting of a seventeenth century Oxford coffeehouse

Secrets of the Penny University is a dual timeline/time-slip novel that balances a present day and historical narrative and evokes the atmosphere of one of the country’s first coffeehouses in 1656.

A sequel to The Woman in the Painting, the novel follows the story of Tilly, who readers last saw as a six-year old girl in 1645 in the village of Islip. Now she’s a young woman with no control over how her life is about to change.

“Having been a coffee industry journalist and magazine editor for much of my career, to set this book in a coffee shop was the obvious choice,” Amanda says. “It’s a dual timeline novel, so you know to expect a story where the past and the present become entwined.”

Secrets of the Penny University is available now in paperback, on Kindle e-book and KENP. Three free-to-attend launch events (see events section of this website) will be followed by a two-week programme of online events, including author interview and blog tour.
