About Amanda Roberts

An independent author, Amanda Roberts has won multiple awards for her books and her work as a freelance magazine editor.

Her first novel, ‘The Roots of the Tree’, was published in 2014. Since then she has written a short story, published in 2026 as part of the OxIA Short Story Collection, some children’s stories and three more novels. ‘The Woman in the Painting’ is a dual timeline novel set in Islip, Oxfordshire, in 1645 and 2019 and its sequel, ‘Secrets of the Penny University’ also dual timeline, set in Oxford itself in 1656 and 2025. ‘Lady of the Quay’, the first in the Isabella Gillhespy series of historical crime/suspense novels is set in Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1560.

Amanda is currently working on book two of the Isabella Gillhespy series.

Amanda is a member of The Society of Authors, The Historical Novel Society, West Oxfordshire Writers, Oxford Independent Authors and the Alliance of Independent Authors.

Amanda is also part of the 1in200.uk scheme, which supports independent Oxfordshire authors to get their books into independent bookshops and other stores, such as coffee shops. She featured in an interview with BBC Oxfordshire about the scheme.
